Aidan Cullen Memorial Pool Tournament 2015
April 14, 2015
The final of the Aidan Cullen memorial pool tournament was held last Thursday night 9th April, between Johnny (the Dub) Murphy and Alan (the Assassin) Griffin. An excellent crowd turned up for this final and they werenât disappointed with the high standard set by both players. All of the frames were close and well contested but Johnny managed to win 4-0.
Many thanks to Liam Whelan for refereeing the final and to Eddie Mullins for providing the food. Well done to Gerry Dunne for organising and managing the tournament, which was run very efficiently, and to Liam McManus for the photography.
After the final, Club Chairman, Brendan Woulfe
thanked all for their time and efforts in making this a special event. Martin
Hoban shared some lovely memories of Aidan. Sincere thanks to Bill Cullen,
Aidanâs brother for the beautiful trophy, which will be played for annually in
Aidanâs memory, and for his kind words. The trophy was presented to Johnny
Murphy by Aidanâs wife, Miriam and Club President Pat OâShea.
Commiserations to Alan but we know you will be back to have another bash at it next year. Johnny Murphy, in his acceptance speech, spoke of how much this trophy meant to him and how he was very proud to be the first winner of it. A fantastic night, one that Aidan himself would be proud to be associated with. Well done to all concerned.
