U15 LGFA Division 2 League Semi Final, Saturday 28th Sept

Rathcoffey 2-16, Naas 4-06

Naas girls were defeated by Rathcoffey by four points in the Division 2 league semi final following a very exciting hour’s play at Rathcoffey grounds last Saturday. The round robin stage began on 20th August and concluded on 24th September with Naas winning 3 (Carbury, Two Mile House and Balyna) and losing 2 (Rathcoffey and Eadestown) to secure an away semi final and re-match with favourites Rathcoffey

Naas began the match well, taking the game to the home team. This continued for much of the first half with the Rathcoffey defence severely tested on numerous occasions. Rathcoffey scored a goal with the last kick of the half to reduce the Naas lead to a single score at the break. In the second half Rathcoffey began to get the upper hand as the earlier efforts from Naas began to take its toll. With time running out the home team had built up a seven point lead. Then, following an excellent move by the forwards, Naas scored a fine goal. The final whistle sounded shortly afterwards with Naas pressing to further reduce the deficit.

Overall this was a very good display by the Naas girls, who can look forward with confidence to the U16 Spring league starting early in the new year.
