Naas hosted Monasterevin in the final group match in the Intermediate Championship group stages . This match was a very significant encounter as the victorious team would secure the final semi -final slot in this competition. The Naas team enjoyed a considerable lead at the interval as the players played with great cohesion and recorded some fine scores . Goals were in abundance courtesy of Fiona Trant, Lisa Shaw and Caoimhe Maher. Monasterevin played with their usual tenacity and determination and were also rewarded with scores from Lauren Kelly and Áine Nash. The Naas defence showed great determination in their tackling and general vigilance in the face of the Monasterevin attack. The Naas goalkeeper Cáitlín Hayes led by example as she cleared her lines on several occasions.
The spree of Naas goals gave their team a thirteen point cushioning at half-time but credit to the Monasterevin players , they were not deterred and continued to forge ahead in quest of scores. The Naas players were not ready to relinquish their hard- earned lead and they added further scores ;the ball rattled the net yet again courtesy of Lisa Shaw , Áine Conway and Shannon Doheny. Elena Prendergast and Deirdre Doyle added a point each in the final seconds of the match.
Monasterevin recorded some fine scores also in this half with Lauren Kelly , playing as a full forward was the main contributor of scores. It was a very exciting match and the supporters present were treated to a fine display of honest and spirited football. Naas had laid the foundations for their win in the first half and maintained the sizeable lead enjoyed at half-time. Monasterevin played very gallantly to try to haul back the Naas lead but on this occasion , the Naas players were not to be denied a semi -final place in the Intermediate Championship.
Naas will play Kilcullen in the semi-final on Saturday 17th August in Kilcullen at 8pm. The players deserve all your support and encouragement in their quest for a place in the Intermediate Final.
Support on the night would be greatly appreciated as the Naas Ladies strive to bring more silverware to the club as they accomplished last year. Nás Abú !
