Lorna Kearns on fire for Naas

Senior camogie - Division Three League

Naas 0-10 Nurney 1-7

Naas senior camogie played a very entertaining draw with Nurney in the Division Three league before a good crowd in Naas on Monday 16th April.

Flame-haired dynamo Lorna Kearns was the star of the show, earned ahead of stiff opposition from a number of players.

This was a great night again for all the Naas youngsters captained outstandingly by the skilful Ciara Brown, who got a fabulous point at a crucial stage when it was most needed.

It amazingly and thankfully stayed dry for most of the game on the senior pitch which has coped well with the poor weather of late. So, conditions were good for hurling despite the strong wind gusting in from the hill.

Emily Quinn was super again – she’s in brilliant form at the moment. Another leader and a tough customer. Very strong in the air around the goal.

Kate Flanagan has now settled into adult hurling. She has played four or five senior games and her class is becoming evident. This was her best match - so far. Much more to come from Kate.

Anna Blake made her full senior debut and was eye-catching with the red helmet everywhere. Very relaxed with ball in hand and a powerful striker. She’s some prospect.

Kearns is a joy to behold. An artist who never put a foot wrong on the night and simply tormented the Nurney girls with her dazzling skill which she combines with a huge workrate. A lethal combination.

Kerrie Lewis, Anna Kennedy and Aislinn Marmion were very strong in defence especially with the ball around their feet. Very adept at magicing the ball into hand and away. Good low technique in the rucks.

In midfield, Rachel O’Connor and Tara Herley are coming to terms nicely with the weekly outing for the senior team. Both now very comfortable getting ball into hand first-time - and long strikers as well.

Ellen O’Boyle and Roisin Roche did all the damage up front and posed a constant threat. They generate tremendous power in their shots which resulted in wonderful points for both. The pair have serious physical presence and ball-winning ability.

Good progress also on the night for Ciara Perkins, Siofra Mernagh and Kaytlyn Walsh. Steady improvement in their confidence levels is now evident and these three are also adjusting well to the demands of senior camogie. Totally engaging in the most robust exchanges - not a bother.

Speedy recovery wishes to water-woman Grainne Dowling, who’s only a week or two away.

Great to see Kildare star Fiona Trant nearing a return to the action.

Big Naas crowd out tonight again on the balcony as momentum grows. The big M.
