NAAS 3 - 16          CARBURY 1 - 20     (AFTER EXTRA TIME)

In a very wet and very cold Hawkfield the under seventeens of Naas and Carbury served up a thiller in which no team deserved to lose.

Naas emerged victorious after extra time. Naas led by a point at the interval 1 – 5 to 0 – 7.

In the second half Naas forged ahead but Carbury drew level with a goal and a point in injury time to draw level and send the game into extra time.

Naas missed a penalty after two minutes but a Sam Morrissey goal after eight minutes put Naas in the deiving seat.

Carbury fought back and with two minutes left the sides were level again.

Two late points by Dermot Hannafin and Alex Beirne gave Naas victory.

Naas opened the scoring with a Paddy McDermott point. Then Billy Byrne(Naas) and Jack Smyth (Carbury) swapped points. A Byrne free put Naas ahead 1 – 2 to 0 – 4 after twenty minutes.

The teams scored three points each before the interval to leave Naas ahead 1 – 5 to 0 – 7.

In the second half two Jack Cleary points put Naas three up. Gary Redmond (Carbury) and Billy Byrne (Naas) exchanged points before Carbury drew level with points from Larry Martin, James Carey and Mark Cully at 1 – 8 to 0 – 11 after fifteen minutes.

The teams swapped two points each before a Sam Morrissey point and a Dermot Hannafin put Naas four up as the game entered Injury time.

Carbury reduced the arrears with an O’Shea free. With time almost up James Carey pounced on a rebound to finish the ball to the net and send the game into extra time.

In extra time Naas missed a penalty before Gary Redmond pointed for Carbury. Naas then went two Ahead with a Sam Morissey goal.

Jack Smyth (Carbury) and Dermot Hannafin traded points. Four unanswered points gave Carbury a two point lead with five minutes remaining.

Naas substitute Ronan Kelly reduced the arrears to the minimum. A Billy Byrne free levelled the game as time ran out.

Late points by Dermot Hannafin and Alex Beirne brought Naas a hard earned victory.
