U14 Kildare Camogie Feile B Report   27/04/2017

The 2017 Kildare Feile B Camogie blitz competition took place last Sunday (April 23) in Johnstown Bridge GAA Club.  The Feile B competition comprised of 2 groups of 4 clubs each with all clubs playing each other within their group first and the winners and runners up of each group progressing to a semi-final  and then final stage.  Our Naas team were in Group A alongside Rathcoffey / Maynooth / Cappagh, Johnstownbridge & Clane.  Group & Semi Final Games were 8 minutes a side and the final 12 minutes a side.  The short duration games demonstrate the need for teams to be competitive and alert right from the get go.

Our first group game was against the newly merged team of Rathcoffey / Maynooth/ Cappagh (RMC) who we had played recently in the Kildare u14 Div 1 League so both teams knew what to expect from each other.  The game was extremely tight with both teams level at half time at a goal each (Naas scorer Elena Prendergast)  but RMC scored a point in the second half which was their winning point – final score (Naas 1:0 RMC 1:1).

Our second group game was against Johnstownbridge who we hadn’t played since the u13 Autumn league last year.  Allanah Prizeman scored a point in the first half to give us a small lead at half time.  Johnstown Bridge scored the draw point in the final moments of the game which lead to the final score ( Naas 0:1 Johnstownbridge  0:1)  Naas went into the final group game against Clane knowing they needed to win in order to stay in the competition as Johnstownbridge and Clane had drawn earlier in the day and RMC had won all three games.  The chips were down and Naas went in determined.  2 goals by Elena Prendergast and a point from  Aibhe Connolly proved enough to get us into semi-final stage with final score ( Naas 2:1 Clane 0:0).

Succeeding to semi-final stage Naas were up against Eire Og C.C. who emerged as winners of Group B.  RMC were paired against Broadford (runners up of Group B).  At half time there was no score for either team with Naas having had some opportunity to try and score.  A goal by Allanah Prizeman in the second half proved to be the winning score and Eire Og manager wished us well in the final and offered their support to us.

Naas now found themselves back playing RMC in the Feile B County Final.  This was the  3rd opportunity to play this newly formed team and RMC having a win track record against Naas for the previous 2 and a win record for all matches play previously on the blitz day.  Naas as always were up to the challenge.  The game was intense had a slightly longer duration (12 minutes a side) and a goal by Elena Prendergast in the first half gave us a 2 pt lead at half time (Naas 1:0 RMC 0:1).  It was ours to take and a goal by Hannah Murphy in the second half gave us a stronger lead.  RMC did however score a goal which made it tight to the very end.  Naas came out third time lucky and became Kildare 2017 County Feile B champions.

Dual Celebrations took place back in the club with the Feile A team champions from the previous day.  What a great achievement .
