LADIES FOOTBALL SNR DIV2 NAAS 1-14 KILCOCK 1-04
LADIES FOOTBALL Senior League Division 2 April 2017
Naas 1-14 Kilcock 1-04
Kilcock travelled to Naas to play this fourth round fixture in this highly competitive Division 2 league. It was a dry, cool evening; ideal conditions for a fast moving game and it certainly lived up to such expectations.
Naas won possession from the throw in and registered the first score as Laoise Dunne linked up with Kelly Perkins and scored the opening point for the home team. Kilcock responded with a point courtesy of Grace White. The teams traded further points but, Naas forwards continued to extend their lead with scores from the prolific Áine Cummins who scored from play and converted numerous frees.
Ciara Breslin added to the Naas tally with a well taken goal which was the end result of a fine passing movement from mid field pairing of Alison Walsh and Niamh Bergin.
The play ebbed and flowed from one end of the pitch to the other and Kilcock competed for every ball but the score line did not reflect their efforts whereas Naas converted their possession and had a nine point lead at the interval on a score line of Naas 1-9 Kilcock 0-3.
The game resumed at a frantic pace as both defences worked very diligently to thwart their opposing forwards and this resulted in a low scoring half. Kilcock were determined not to allow Naas forge ahead but, in spite of their gallant efforts, Naas added three further points and Áine Cummins finished the Naas scoring with two final points which credited her with a tally of nine points in total.
Kilcock scored a goal in the final seconds of the match to register their final score. Naas emerged as winners by a ten point margin but it was a very competitive game and great determination and focus were the hallmarks of both teams on the night.
