MINOR FOOTBALL LEAGUE SEMI-FINAL


A PADDY MC DERMOTT BRACE IN THE SECOND HALF ENSURES A FINAL SPOT FOR NAAS

Two second half goals by Paddy Mc Dermott gave Naas a three point victory over a very strong Maynooth side who led for most of the game. 


Maynooth were quick into their stride and had the ball in the net inside two minutes. Two more first half goals put Maynooth five points clear at the break 3 – 2 to 1 – 3.


Naas fought back in the second half and reduced the lead to two points when Paddy Mc Dermott goaled to put them into the lead for the first time. 


Despite strong Maynooth pressure Naas held on to their one point lead. With three minutes to go, Paddy Mc Dermott netted his second goal which left four between them. Maynooth will feel that they left it behind them but the Naas sides determination to win shone through in the end.


Maynooth started strongly with two Niall O’Sullivan goals, one from a penalty. Maynooth led 2 – 1 to 0 – 1 after ten minutes. Naas replied with a Luke Griffin penalty and a Colm Joyce point. Maynooth led by five points at the interval.


Maynooth were first on the scoreboard in the second half with a Niall Kinirons free. 

Naas then took over and scored 1 – 4 without reply to take a one point lead. They also missed a second half penalty. 


Maynooth leveled with a Kinirons free before Naas took command with an Ian Blackburn point and a second Paddy Mc Dermott goal.
