Ladies U16 Div 2 Naas 7-06 – 0-06 Edenderry
Ladies U16 Div 2 - 11.03.2017 Naas V Edenderry, Referee Anthony Herbert
Final Score - Naas 7-06 – 0-06 Edenderry
Naas U16 Div 2 Ladies team were at home for the first time in the U16 Div 2 League on Saturday morning with the visitors being Edenderry from Offaly. The re-fixed game that was called off last week due to a waterlogged pitch was played in pleasant conditions, but the pitch like most in the county was still showing signs of the previous week’s weather with heavy underfoot conditions.
Due to other commitments and the restrictions on County U14 and U16 players Naas were only able to field 13 players but each player put in a shift that saw them get a good lead in the first half that they never relinquished. Early goals from Lisa Shaw and Aoife Glennon set the Naas girls off on the right foot and with the tireless work of Kelly Riordan and Caoimhe Carberry in midfield the forwards got a lot of ball in the first half. Edenderry were playing their first game in this league and also were without some of their County players away on duty for Offaly. The Edenderry defence was very solid at times and they worked the ball out well and their forwards scored some well taken points from play.
The Naas ladies defence was well served by Orla Mas, Megan Flood, Roisin Tobin and Aimee Loughran who battled well to keep the Edenderry score to a minimum. Position switches in the second half also saw Sarah Rogers and Caitlin Hayes at their best and in control of the middle of the field providing plenty of ball to the forward line to score and also assist their defenders. An early point from Lorna Kearns settled the Naas Girls back into their rhythm in the second half and when Hannah Goodfellow put in Aoife Glennon for another second half goal Naas were well on top. A clean sheet for Zoe Plunkett in the Naas goal rounded off a great performance by the 13 Girls from Naas. Anthony Herbert let the game flow in his usual manner and as always had words of encouragement for both sides.
Thanks to the grounds committee for their hard work during the week preparing the pitch.
